Five days in Iceland in June 2023, right after a handball tournament in Nuuk, Greenland. It was not a Ring Road loop. It was a short stay based in Reykjavík, with day trips out to Þingvellir, Laugarvatn and the Reykjanes peninsula before I flew on to a training camp in Hungary. These are field notes, not a guide: where I actually was, in the order it happened.

Arriving from Nuuk: 13 June
I flew in from Nuuk on the evening of 13 June, a day later than planned after our flights out of Greenland changed (that part of the trip is in my Nuuk post). By the time I landed at Keflavík and got into Reykjavík, check-in at the apartment was close to 1 a.m.
Home base for the whole stay was an apartment on Brautarholt, in central Reykjavík, with a rental car for the days out of the city.
15 June: Silfra and Laugarvatn
The one day with fixed bookings. In the morning I snorkeled the Silfra fissure in Þingvellir National Park with Tröll. At noon we were at Laugarvatn Fontana, the geothermal baths on the lake at Laugarvatn.
16 June: the Blue Lagoon
We checked out of the apartment on the 16th and spent the late afternoon at the Blue Lagoon, arriving at 4 p.m. — a sensible last stop, since it sits between Reykjavík and the airport.
A Sky Lagoon visit was also on the books during the stay.
Getting out
My flight left Keflavík just after midnight on 17 June, to Frankfurt and on to Budapest for a training camp. In June, Iceland barely gets dark, so even a half-past-midnight departure happens in daylight.
