Planning a Europe Trip: What to Know Before You Go
Choose one starting point: Barcelona for a longer city stay, Iceland for a short Reykjavík-based stay, or Paris for a story from a Team USA training camp. The articles below reflect those different kinds of visits.
Before booking anything, it is worth checking the U.S. Department of State’s travel advisories for whichever European countries are on the itinerary, since entry requirements and conditions can shift even between neighboring Schengen countries. The CDC’s destination pages are also worth a quick look for any recommended vaccinations before a longer trip.
Check the currency, payment options, and transport for the countries on your route. A continent-wide overview cannot replace those local details.
Packing for Europe depends heavily on season and region. Summers in southern Spain or Italy run hot and dry, while a trip through the United Kingdom or Iceland calls for layers and proper rain gear even in July. Comfortable walking shoes matter everywhere, since most European cities are built for walking, biking, and public transit rather than driving.
Use the country links below to see what is published for each destination.
