This is a real four-day walking itinerary through Havana, built neighborhood by neighborhood instead of sight by sight. Day one stays in Habana Vieja, starting early at Plaza Vieja before the tour groups arrive, then working outward through the side streets around Calle Mercaderes and Plaza de la Catedral, where the restored colonial buildings sit next to ones still crumbling.
Day two moves to Centro Habana and the Malecon, the long seafront promenade where locals gather in the evening. This is where you find the city’s real texture: fishermen casting off the seawall, kids playing baseball in the street, and small paladares tucked into front rooms of family homes rather than the touristy spots near the plazas. Day three is Vedado, Havana’s leafier, more residential district, with its mix of 1950s mansions, university streets, and the Hotel Nacional gardens overlooking the water.
Day four is left open as a buffer day, since Havana rewards slow mornings and unplanned detours more than a packed schedule.
